News from Hope Africa University

HAU GRADUATION will be December 19.
Gerald Bates, Pres. of Friends of HAUHAU Graduation ceremonies will take place December 19th, 2008. Friends of HAU President, Gerald Bates, and his wife, Marlene, plan to be present in Bujumbura for graduation. Gerald will be in Burundi to give the Hope Africa University commencement address and also to attend the two-day meeting of the HAU Governing board, of which he is a member.

School of Medicine Update.
Hope Africa University is home to the Frank Ogden School of Medicine and a school of nursing. There are just over 100 students in each of these schools spread among the first three year classes. The School of Medicine is a seven year curriculum leading to the MD degree; the nursing school is four years.

A Physicians Advisory Group composed of North American doctors is being formed, including some MKs (“missionary kids” who are doctors), former missionary doctors, and other professionals committed to the mission of HAU. A visit to the University and Kibuye Hospital (and other medical installations) is being planned for March 2009.
